Seems technology has gone full circle.

Seriously, thats quite a good idea, probably patentable.

One thing everyone commenting on that article seems to have overlooked (including myself) is that paper is double sided.

I think you may have it with the plastic film idea. In fact, instead of A4 size, you could have it as a long strip. Though that would be fiddley with feeding it in. I've got it!: you could put this long plastic film (or, tape, shall we say?) on a couple of reels, and encase the whole thing in plastic. I'm not totally sure it would work though.

BrunoX reads my blog!

Thats what eight to fourteen does with CD's, but as the name suggests, it's quite wasteful (but can correct a lot of errors). plus, with CD's, the data is so small, that you are unlikely to get damage that causes the loss of more than 1 or 2 bits at a time. (scratches aren't much thicker than the pits).

With paper though, a single crease could cover 100's of medabytes.
In theory though, it doesn't have to be paper, some sort of plastic film, though harder to print, would be more resiliant to such damage.

I can see it now though... some guy losing his pr0n collection because he tried to staple the pages, or holepunched them :P

Could be an easy way to transfer data across an office, just fold it up into a paper aeroplane, and chuck :P

I wonder if the decoding of paper would be able to correct errors... if so, the maximmum ammount of info to save in a sheet of paper would decrease, and a lot.

It's so easy to stain paper :(
